Building control charges

Our fees are set in line with The Building (Local Authority Charges) Regulations 2010. The fees charged are based on the cost of providing the service and are calculated on a non-profit basis.

You will find our fees for certain common building projects in the resources box to the right:

  • Table A is for new dwellings (up to a maximum of five), whether the dwelling is newly built or formed by the conversion of an existing building
  • Table B lists fees for certain domestic projects, including extensions, outbuildings, loft conversions and garage conversions. Table B does not apply to non-domestic buildings
  • Table C lists fees for all work to non-domestic buildings, or work to domestic buildings which are not listed in Schedules A and B. Fees from Table C are based on a reasonable estimate of the cost of the works. The maximum project value for Table C is £50,000

For any works which fall outside the scope of Tables A to C, for example a development of more than five dwellings or Table C work which is over £50,000 in value, please contact us and we will prepare a bespoke fee quotation for you. When preparing a quotation, we will take account of the cost, the type of building (including any unusual features) and the duration of the work, so please think about the information you can provide when contacting us.

For Regularisation applications, see the Regularisation charges document (PDF document) because the fees for this type of application are slightly different.

How do I pay?

You can pay by either:

  • Cheque made payable to Herefordshire Council
  • Credit/debit card by telephone or using the form to the right
