Land and Premises

If you need to know who owns a piece of land or property in Herefordshire then Property Services is a good place to start. We maintain a record of property, owned or leased by the Council that is known as the Property Terrier. The Terrier is a collection of maps and legal records of properties that the council has an interest in.

We can quickly check the Terrier to see whether a property is in the ownership of the council. If it is then we can put you in touch with the relevant council department that is responsible for the property.

If the property is not council owned, then the next place to try is the Land Registry who hold national records of land ownership.

How To Make An Enquiry About Council Land Ownership

To enable the council to provide a quick answer regarding our land ownership please can any request for information be as detailed as possible to aid a search and locate the land in question. Details which can help are:-

  • Full postal address, including post code;
  • Ordnance Survey (OS) Grid reference;
  • Location plan with highlighted area;
  • Any other information deemed relevant.

Enquiries should be made in the first instance to the Terrier Officer on 01432 383362.
