This is a small fund to help local community groups, businesses, trusts and land managers in the central and western parts of Hereford and outlying parishes bring ideas and projects to life for the benefit of the Herefordshire environment. The scheme is keen to support projects that involve communities and which improve the green spaces and networks within their community, for the benefit of people and wildlife.
Groups can apply for a grant of up to £3000. The closing date for applications is 20th July 2012.

Green Infrastructure includes established green spaces and new sites and should thread through and surround the built environment and connect urban areas to the wider rural hinterland. At a time when Herefordshire is determining the future pattern and location of development and land use it is expedient that natural assets and systems are also recognised and incorporated into the planning system.
A Green Infrastructure Strategy has been produced for the whole county. Part one places green infrastructure in context, both nationally and locally. It establishes an evidence base for the existing resource and identifies the issues and opportunities for green infrastructure at a range of scales across the county. The second part covers:
Local Strategic Corridors, Local Enhancement Zones and Fringe Zones are described for each of the six principal towns – the information for Hereford City is particularly important as this is the largest urban area, where pressure for development is greatest and where integration of green infrastructure can provide significant benefits for people and wildlife.
