Environmental Health

The Environmental Health Service provides and manages services that protect and promote the health, physical and mental well-being of everyone who resides, visit, works or is affected by activities that occur within Herefordshire.  It safeguards consumers and businesses alike by providing a fair and honest trading environment in which traders and manufacturers compete lawfully for their market share.

Community needs are met by using legislation as a foundation for advising, educating, promoting and enforcing all environmental, public health, licensing, trading standards and animal welfare issues by planned inspection programmes, monitoring and sampling programmes, complaint investigation, advice and education, was well as development of partnership with businesses, external organisations and the community for each service area.

The Environmental Health Service delivery is supported by enforcement policies and project plans, which help sustain the Council's wider aims and objectives.  The Service is a major enforcement agency in Environmental Protection issues.  The Service also enforces legislation that protects consumers from unscrupulous traders and businesses that frequently target the poorest in the community.  Finally, the Service plays a substantial role in controlling issues that affect the health and quality of life of communities within Herefordshire in areas ranging from dog control through to noise nuisance.
