Care To Learn

Care to Learn (C2L) provides financial support of currently £160 per week per child for teenage parents who want to continue in, or return to learning. It helps with the cost of their childcare and travel.
Getting support from Care to Learn does not effect any other benefits you may be receiving.

 A young parent can get help with their childcare if they are:

  • Aged under 20 years on the day their course or learning programme starts;
  • on a course that receives some public funding at a college, school, sixth form, or a course in their community e.g. at Children's Centres or other forms of community
  • living in England and meet the residency criteria for the scheme;
  • the main carer of their child;
  • using childcare that is registered on the compulsory part of the Ofsted Childcare Register and/or the Early Years Register.
  • Apprentices cannot receive Care to Learn support but can get help through Working Tax Credits.

You can request a pack online from the directgov website at www.direct.gov.uk/caretolearn. The pack will be sent to your home address which you should complete and return to the Learner Support Service. You can also call the Learner Support Services (LSS) helpline on 0800 121 8989 to request a pack.

Learning providers and other organisations can order a number of packs to distribute to learners from YPLA Publications by calling 0845 602 2260 or emailing ypla@prolog.co.uk, quoting the reference YPLA-G-002/2011. It is important that providers do not order large quantities of application packs, over and above what they will use.

If you are starting a course on or before 28th August 2011 will need to apply for support on a 2010/11 application form. These are available from the Learner Support Service.  Learners should call 0800 121 8989. More information on the scheme and how to apply is available from the Care to Learn website
