The Diploma is a new qualification that has
been introduced into Herefordshire from September 2009. It
has been created to provide a real alternative to more
traditional education and is the most important changes to the
country's education system since the introduction of GCSEs.
Diplomas will give young people a well rounded qualification, and combine theoretical and practical learning with functional English, Maths and ICT skills. Learners also get the chance to find out abut an area of work they may be interested in, without limiting their options, or having to make any firm career related decisions.
The qualification engages local businesses and provider throughout the delivery of the course, and aims to equip students with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary for further education and employment.

The Diploma will eventually be available in seventeen different subjects.
When you have finished your Diploma you are fully equipped to stay on at school or college and complete another course. This could be a higher level Diploma or something different, like A levels or a BTEC course. You are also able to continue with higher education, do an Apprenticeship or begin training or employment.
