Young Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships logo Young Apprenticeships give motivated and able KS4 students the chance to combine the practical application of skills and knowledge in a work context with the pursuit of qualifications related to the various industry sectors.

Young Apprenticeships offer years 10 and 11 students the opportunity to spend fifty days gaining experience with an employer, training company or college.

Young Apprentices combine this extended work experience with college study, and this leads to a range of applied qualifications equivalent to A*-C at GCSE. This specialised learning is completed alongside study of the National Curriculum and other GCSEs in the rest of the school week.

Young Apprenticeships on offer in Herefordshire in 2010 are:

  • Hospitality and Catering
  • Sport, Management and Leadership and Coaching
  • Hairdressing
  • Health and Social Care
  • Motor Industry
  • Construction

If you complete the programme, you may be able to move more quickly towards a full-time Apprenticeship in your chosen area. However, you could also decide to stay on in full-time education, either at school or college.

For more information please speak to your school, college or Connexions, or contact the 14 -19 Team at Herefordshire Council. Alternatively you can access information from the Department for Education
