Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships logo Why not earn a wage, work for an employer, get your foot on the first rung of the career ladder and study for a nationally recognised qualification all in one? With an Apprenticeship you can!

You can do an Apprenticeship from the age of 16 and above.

Nationally there are nearly 200 types of Apprenticeships across many different sectors. The right one for you will depend on your interests, the type of career you would like to follow, your experience and the types of opportunities available.

Apprentices are employed by the company they are with and wages are covered by the National Minimum Wage, however many Apprentices earn significantly more.

Entry requirements will vary depending on the level of the Apprenticeship and Industry sector.

As employees, Apprentices work and train with their employers with periods of time given to off the job training either at a college or a private training provider.

There are many benefits to doing an Apprenticeship. You can earn while you learn, and learn in a way that is best suited to you- through hands-on experience on the job. Key benefits of being an Apprentice include:

  • earning a salary
  • getting paid holidays
  • receiving training
  • gaining qualifications
  • learning job-specific skills

There are three levels of Apprenticeship:

  • Intermediate Apprenticeship
  • Advanced Apprenticeship
  • Higher Apprenticeship
