The Government has set a target that by 2010, fifty per cent of those aged between 18 and 30 should have the opportunity to benefit from HE.
Within Herefordshire the Aimhigher programme is rolled out through the Local Authority. Herefordshire Council, via the 14-19 Team is given a yearly budget to administer to High Schools and FE Colleges to fund activities - with each being targeted for specific groups of students and evaluated appropriately in line with National procedure.
Schools in conjunction with the LA create an action plan showing the breakdown of budget into specific activities that they want to do in order to raise the aspirations and attainments of their students. Examples of activities that have happened throughout the County are:
• Students
attended a Step into HE Fair at Worcester Rugby Club run by
the Lifelong Learning Network. This event was aimed at
students following vocational pathways
• Theatre productions to Year 9s
providing them with information regarding the options
process
If you would like to know more about the Aimhigher programme nationally and within the County, please contact the 14-19 Team within the Council.
