Music Service
The Council's Music Service provides Herefordshire's children and young people with the opportunity to learn a musical instrument and take part in bands, orchestras and other ensembles activities. Over 3000 pupils every week use the service, which is supported by a team of over 60 professionals. The Music Service receives funding (Music Education Grant) from the Department for Education. We are part of the 'People's Services Directorate' within Herefordshire Council.
Herefordshire Music Service was 're-launched' on 1 September 2011. We now provide an Accredited List of Instrumental and vocal teachers who work in schools across the county. In addition we have a very successful whole class instrumental teaching programme (Wider Opportunities) for pupils in KS2. Instrument hire is available to pupils learning with an Accredited Teacher (subject to availability). Some instruments may also be hired to pupils not learning through the Music Service. Please select the tab on the left for further information on 'Instruments'.
The Music Service also runs Herefordshire Youth Music - a highly regarded range of bands, orchestras and other ensemble activities. This includes the prestigious Youth Orchestra, Saturday morning Music Centre, workshops, residential courses and European Tours. In addition to our work in schools, Herefordshire Music Service works in partnership with a number of other organisations contributing to musical education. Herefordshire Music Service is also taking the lead as the principle organisation of the Herefordshire Music Hub.
