Hereford City overflowing with festive fun for December

08 December 2003

Hereford City Partnership and Herefordshire Council have been working closely to provide a month of festive activities for shoppers and visitors to Hereford City.

Every Wednesday night during December late night shoppers will be treated to a feast of festive fun including stilt walkers in fancy dress, fire breathers, dancers and carol singers.

The Wednesday night entertainments began with the Christmas Lights switch-on on 12 November and will carry on running until 17 December.

"We really want to give the City an exciting festive atmosphere. The street entertainers bring High Town and the rest of the City to life," said Juliette Coard, Manager of Maylord Shopping Centre and Member of Hereford City Partnership.

"All the events and activities are there to make people's Christmas shopping that little bit more enjoyable," she added.

There are a variety of other activities and events planned throughout December to keep the City buzzing. Some of these are detailed below.

Saturday 6 December will see the popular Farmers' Market come to town, giving people an opportunity to stock up on delicious local produce.

The Hereford District Scout Council will also be in town on 6 December offering their low cost Christmas card delivery service.

On Friday 12 December the Virgin Mobile Exhibition trailer will roll into town. They work alongside local retailers and will have a broad range of mobile phones and accessories on offer.

The Herefordshire Young Enterprise marquee will be in the City Centre on Saturday 13 December, from 10am-4pm.

There will be 12 stalls in the marquee with companies from local schools including representatives from the Blind College and Leominster Pupil Referral Unit. The companies will be selling items they've produced.

On Thursday 18 December there will be a special Christmas Farmers' Market, providing shoppers with a last chance to stuff larders and stockings with local delicacies.

Saturday 20 December will be bursting with activity, there will be dancers and carol singers from the Christian Life Centre in High Town in the afternoon and the Classic Hits double decker bus will be there entertaining crowds all day.

There is of course something on every day between now and Christmas with a whole host of street trading activity ranging from the ever popular Carousel and children's attractions to a delicious range of food and drink stalls.
