Traders and shoppers in Hereford have something to cheer about with the announcement today by Herefordshire Council it will waive fees for Park and Ride and offer some free parking in the lead-up to Christmas.
The “present” from the Council is to help city businesses recover from the recent legionnaires outbreak which has affected centre trade.
The popular Park and Ride Service will be free for the remaining Saturdays and the Merton Meadow Car Park, in Hereford, is to be free after 2pm Monday to Friday, from Monday 15th up to Christmas Eve 24th.
Free parking from 4pm on Wednesdays (December 10 and 17) at all other Council Car Parks in Hereford remains as previously advertised.
Cllr Mike Wilson, Cabinet Member (Highways and Transportation), said: “Hereford city traders have been hard hit in recent weeks and we are doing what we can to help them get back on their feet.
“We want as many people as possible to take advantage of the free Park and Ride service and the free afternoon parking at Merton Meadow.
“The city has a fantastic variety of shops with something for everyone and there’s never been a better or cheaper time to visit.
“Everyone wants to see a vibrant city centre, especially during the festive season, and plenty of Christmas shoppers on the streets of our beautiful city.”
The Park-and-Ride sites are:
· Denco Car Park to the north of the city on the A49 (Holmer Road)
· Grafton site, on the A49 (Ross Road) to the south of the city
Buses run every 15 minutes, starting at 9am, with the last return bus leaving the city centre at 5.50pm.
