Young people speak out about Herefordshire

21 March 2005

Young people in Herefordshire will have their voices heard at an exciting and unique event that will offer creative, fun and inventive ways for them to speak out about a range of topics.

Speak Out Day takes place on Wednesday 6th of April at the Courtyard, and
will give young people aged 13 to 19 the opportunity to air their views on everything from soaps to politics.

They will also be able to build a graffiti wall of issues, play the ‘Millionaire’ voting game, talk to young radio reporters to record opinions, get involved in interactive workshops, and win some fabulous prizes.

The event is being organized by the Herefordshire Council Community Youth Service, Connexions and the Youth Times Project.

Amy Lunt, Herefordshire Council Youth Involvement Worker, said: “This is going to be a fantastic event, with lots going on and many opportunities for young people.

“We encourage them to come along to the event and get involved”.

“There will be guest speakers from local youth councils and information about a brand new project that will get young people’s voices heard across the county.”

Cllr Roy Stockton, Cabinet Member Community and Social Development, said:
“This is a great opportunity for young people to have a say on issues that affect them such as rural transport and facilities for young people, to name a few.

“It will offer a safe, creative environment for them to voice their concerns and share ideas with others.”

The action will kick off at 12:00pm, followed by a free lunch. Places are booking fast, so those interested are encouraged to book a place early.
