Bringing poetry to life

18 March 2005

The 7th Annual Children’s Book Festival, hosted by the Herefordshire Schools Library Service, is bringing poetry to life for children in Herefordshire.

The Book Festival, which kicked off last Friday, March 11 and runs until Wednesday, March 23, with sessions being held at schools, libraries, the Town Hall, Hereford and the Shirehall, Hereford.

Six performance poets breath life into their works with music, magic, puppets and live illustrations.

“We want children to learn that poetry is fun and lively and there to be enjoyed by everyone,” said Rosemarie Fleming, Schools Library Service Librarian.

“All the performance poets running these sessions have been excellent and really know how to connect with the children and make their poetry exciting.

“This is an ideal opportunity to promote poetry to children who go away full of enthusiasm and keen to write their own poems,” added Rosemarie.

Poets appearing at the Festival are: James Carter, Wes Magee, Brian Moses, Andrew Fusek Peters, Nick Toczek, Chris White.
