Parliamentary performance for Herefordshire Teenager

A 19-year-old Sixth Form student from Ludlow is set for a performance of lifetime at Westminster as part of a special awards ceremony to celebrate the achievement of “Looked After Children”.

Katt Williams, who studies music and photography at Ludlow College, will sing at the prestigious event also to be filmed by BBC TV.

She has lived with her foster family Lynne and Tony Williams, of Brampton Bryan, Shropshire, since she was 11. At 18 Katt felt so much a part of the family that she changed her surname to Williams.

Katt has been chosen by Herefordshire Social Services to attend the lunch with her foster carer Lynne at the Atlee Suite, Westminster, at an event arranged by Hilton Dawson MP tomorrow, Tuesday, February 24, to celebrate the achievements of young people in care.

Chrissie Lawson, Herefordshire Council Social Worker, said: “Katt is a very talented young lady who already has already made great achievements in her academic life.”

“Coupled with this Katt is a very talented singer and has her own agent who arranges for her to sing at parties or clubs in this area. She has raised a substantial amount of money for her favourite charities – Marie Curie and the British Heart Foundation.”

Katt has two A Levels - English Literature and Music - five AS Levels - Music Technology, Theatre Studies, Media Studies, Art and Photography - and is on course to take Photography A Level this summer.

Katt also volunteers at Wigmore High School, where she was a pupil, and helps the Music and Drama department and is currently working on their production Grease. Katt is hoping to pursue a career as a teacher.

Chrissie added: “In a sense Katt is representing all Herefordshire’s Looked After Children at this event with all their achievements who are unfortunately not able to attend this occasion.”

Cllr Olwyn Barnett, Cabinet Member (Social Care and Strategic Housing), said: “Many congratulations to Katt and also to Lynn and Tony Williams who have done so much for the people they have looked after for many years. They must be feeling very pleased.”

Hilton Dawson MP is arranging the event with the support of the BBC as part of the forthcoming BBC campaign about children in care.

Mr Dawson is chairman of the freestanding parliamentary group for young people and children in and leaving care.
