Councillor Don Rule, Cabinet Member (Children’s Services) said: “I am aware that since the early 1990s there have been several attempts to achieve a sports hall at Kingstone, and I am delighted that the years of frustration have now passed.
“The determination which the school and authority and its predecessors have shown over the last 15 years have paid off.
“Although the New Opportunities Fund will be providing over £1 million to the project the authority has committed itself to fund the remaining £300,000”.
Mr R Ridout, Headteacher of Kingstone High School, said: “After years of relying on one large space in the school for assembly, P.E., drama, and examinations the school will now have a top class indoor sports hall.
“We are committed to maximise the benefits for students at Kingstone, for those pupils in surrounding primary schools and for the community.
“This does mark a significant step for the whole of the Golden Valley Community”.
