Herefordshire Councils’ partnership working with Groundwork - Birmingham & Solihull’s Environmental Business Programme – has proved such a success it is to continue throughout 2005.
It means local firms will be able to benefit from further free seminars in relation to a wide variety of business-related environmental issues.
Last year these included advice on environmental emergencies, environmental legislation and environmental & resource management.
“Last year, more than 50 Herefordshire-based companies received advice, training and consultancy support, regarding environmental business improvements,” said Katherine Jones, Economic Investment & Development Officer for Herefordshire Council.
Two Practical Environmental Management courses, accredited to the Chartered Institute of Water & Environmental Management, were also held to train delegates on how to implement Environmental Management Systems into their businesses.
“These resulted in a 100 per cent pass rate,” added Katherine Jones.
Due to these achievements, Hereford is at the forefront of the seminar programme for the region which kicks off with the first FREE breakfast seminar to be held at the Herefordshire Learning Zone on the Rotherwas Industrial Estate on Friday, March 4.
The seminar lasts two hours and starts at 8.30am.
“This seminar, called ‘Environmental Legislation and Management - an update!’ aims to raise awareness amongst the business community and help them to understand the implications of recent and future environmental legislation issues including hazardous waste, the Landfill, Solvent Emissions and WEEE Directives,” said Rebecca Carter, Environmental Business Advisor for Groundwork Birmingham.
“Importantly, changes to the ISO 14001 standard will be covered. It will also provide an opportunity to gain advice from Groundwork’s Environmental Business Advisors and a representative from Herefordshire Council’s Environmental Health Department,” added Rebecca Carter.
The new seminar programme for 2005 will run in conjunction with the April launch of a brand new business support programme aimed at driving environmental improvement through businesses in Herefordshire. Further news on this will be available shortly.
