“Bum” deal for babies

11 February 2005

Herefordshire Council and Worcestershire County Council have joined forces to highlight the benefits of real nappies to parents and parents-to be.

“Nappaccino mornings” held in the two counties are drop in sessions where people can learn about the advantages of real nappies over a free cup of coffee.

The sessions started in 2004 and proved so successful and popular that they are set to continue throughout 2005.

Hereford’s “Nappaccino mornings”, will be held at St Peters Church Hall, St Peters Square, Hereford.

They will take place on the fourth Tuesday of every month 10am – 12pm as opposed to the first Monday of the Month as in 2004.

Lucy Fennessy, Real Nappy Advisor, will be on hand to offer advice on using real nappies.

Laura Preece, Herefordshire Council’s Recycling Officer, said: "Nappaccino mornings have really taken off in Herefordshire, as has the switch from disposable nappies to real nappies.

“We look forward to seeing more parents choose real nappies in 2005.”

Real nappies are a great way of reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.

Before taking to the potty a baby using disposable nappies will fill the equivalent of 45 supermarket trolleys with dirty nappies.

Every day in the UK a staggering eight million disposable nappies are thrown away.*

Real nappies are also kind to your purse as well as the environment. Using home laundered nappies could save parents £500.*
