Symonds Yat, a beauty spot and an important location for tourism for Herefordshire and region, is having a mini-maker courtesy of Herefordshire Council.
Working closely with its partners, Hereford Jarvis Services and consultants Owen Williams, the group has adopted a proactive approach to improving the whole environment – which will mean improvements not just for tourists, but also local businesses and residents.
The works, which began this week, include carriageway resurfacing, highway improvements, new signage, tree maintenance and the refurbishment of the public toilet.
These works began with a road closure yesterday, Monday, February 7. Hereford Jarvis Services said that the road closure will be kept to a minimum and is anticipated to last for just five days - the road will be fully open at the earliest opportunity to reduce the impact on the local residents and businesses.
Herefordshire Council’s Head of Highways and Transport, Stephen Oates, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience this temporary road closure may cause and thank residents and businesses for their co-operation.
“We’re fully aware of the importance of tourism to the locality so we’ve worked closely with both local residents and businesses, and our partners to arrange for the works to be carried out at a quiet time of year to minimise any disruption,” added Stephen.
