Peter is an artist who likes to start a painting without knowing exactly what the outcome will be, until eventually there is a moment when the painting clicks and the road ahead is clear.
He could be working on a picture when something arrives out of the blue to steer it in the obvious direction: an autograph of Joni Mitchell’s (Hello from L.A.), a recollection of boyhood games (Stonk), a strange moment in a radio play (I was surprised the butcher knew my face).
Common themes within his work include memory, landscape, music, poetry, doodles, dreams and ploughed fields.
These give the paintings a certain mood, and the titles of the paintings sometimes refer to this.
Andrea’s paintings are based on medieval maps, folklore and legend, the night sky and her daily life.
Tom Lubbock of the Independent says ‘’Andrea’s circular pictures make swooping fusions of cosmic pattern and miniscule detail, inspired by the medieval Mappa Mundi.’’
Images of Hereford’s cathedral, river, markets and streets together with the mountains and sky of the Welsh borders appear in her work.
This exhibition will include paintings completed in the last two years while Andrea has been living in a farmhouse on the Welsh side of the Black Mountains.
There will be ample opportunity to meet the artist and see her at work in Hereford Cathedral where she is in residence until Easter.
The exhibition will be complimented by audio description and tactile images for the visually impaired.
The exhibition runs until Sunday, 17th April.
