The select committee-style meeting, has been called to allow all interested parties to have their say before the Council makes a decision over the pedestrianisation of Widemarsh Street.
Council representatives will explain the different pedestrianisation options being considered for trial during 2005.
The aim of trialling these options is to allow the Council to reach a more informed decision on whether any long-term measures should be introduced during 2006.
Expert witnesses will be called to give evidence and representatives from traders, taxi drivers, bus operators, disabled groups and emergency services will all be invited to attend the meeting.
Cllr Chris Chappell, Chairman of the Council’s Social & Economic Development Scrutiny Committee, said: “This is a key issue for the city and we want to ensure that everyone’s had an opportunity to have their say.
“This is a golden opportunity to create a pedestrian zone which attracts more shoppers into the city centre and to boost the city centre’s economy.
“But we want to make sure we get it right. There are many voices which must be heard and this meeting will be an opportunity for interested parties to have their views fed into the decision making process,” added Cllr Chappell.
