MAKE NOISE IN LIBRARIES WEEK

Visually impaired people in Herefordshire will be encouraged to speak up
about their library and information needs during the National Library for the
Blind's (NLB) Make a Noise in Libraries Week.

It is being be held July 19-25 and is supported by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP), Resource and the Advisory Council for
Libraries (ACL).

During the week, Hereford, Ross-on-Wye, Ledbury and Leominster libraries will be launching new access technology that can either magnify the computer screen or give speech output.

Jeremy Alder, Head of Herefordshire Libraries, said: “We’re committed to improving access to all our library services for visually impaired people.”

Those registered blind or anyone with a visual impairment can join the library and borrow audio books free of charge.

Make a Noise in Libraries Week is part of a national campaign that aims to bring libraries and visually impaired people together to bring about improvements to library services.

Helen Brazier, NLB's Chief Executive, said: “It’s vitally important that visually impaired people actively engage with libraries to ensure they have access to the same services as sighted people.

“It’s time for visually impaired people to make some noise.”

Make a Noise in Libraries week is part of the Right to Read campaign which aims to
improve access to books for the three million print disabled people in the UK.

The National Library for the Blind is a registered charity providing a
free postal library service to blind and partially sighted people worldwide.
