AWARD FOR KINGTON PARTNERSHIP

The Kington Area Regeneration Partnership is celebrating after winning a prestigious award.

The Regional Market Towns Awards were presented last week in Alcester and Kington won the best Youth Project category with their Skateboard Park and playground.

The project which was only completed a few months ago was developed and supported by the Kington Recreation ground trustees, and along with local young people they lobbied the Regeneration partnership for funding.

The young people themselves assisted with the design and the choice of equipment and have recently formed a management group to oversee the use of the park.

This new facility has proved to be a huge success with both young and old alike, and has given a new life to children's activities in the town.

Chair of the Kington Partnership, Bob Widdowson, said: " We are thrilled to receive this award.

“The partnership have been working very hard for the past few years to regenerate the Kington Area, and in particular they have been trying to engage young people in the process.

“The skateboard park and playground project came from young people and was developed by the young people and we are pleased that we have been able to assist them in building a facility to be proud of".

Bob Widdowson was in Alcester to collect the award along with the Mayor of Kington, Cllr Ros Bradbury.

Both wanted to thank the numerous people who had assisted with the project but in particular Advantage West Midlands through the Market Towns Programme, Sure Start, the ARCH programme and Tarmac Western.
