Two Malaysian government officials jetted into Hereford on Wednesday, June 4, especially to visit Herefordshire Council’s Museum on the Move.
The award-winning exhibition space on wheels is visiting venues around Herefordshire raising awareness of recycling issues and the scheme is something the Malaysian Government is interested in adopting.
Khairul Anuar Shaharudin and Suhaila Binti Saad – both solicitors working on a project for the Malaysian Government - spotted the article on the mobile museum and its exhibition about waste and re-cycling in an international journal on waste management and wanted to see first hand how the scheme worked.
The visitors took time out form a business meeting in London to meet students from Wellington Primary School in Hereford and see first-hand how the scheme worked.
Mr Khairul said: “Malaysia has no space left for landfill, so we are starting a re-cycling initiative on one of the smaller islands as a pilot scheme for the whole country.
“We have been looking into a way of getting across the re-cycling message in Malaysia through a mobile display unit - Museum on the Move means that everyone can get interested and learn about waste and recycling.”
Kate Andrew, Herefordshire Council Principal Heritage Officer, said: “Our Malaysian visitors were very impressed with both the medium and the message of Museum on the Move, describing the vehicle as a world leader.”
The mobile museum shared between Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire. The current exhibition is about the history of recycling.
The Museum on the Move will be in Herefordshire:
· May 12 to June 28
· August 25 to October 5
· November 24 to December 7
Museum on the Move will also be at Kington festival on Saturday 7th June.
