Council Information Only A Few Clicks Away

The wraps have come off Herefordshire Council’s new-look website which means it’s even easier to find out more about the 800 different services provided by your local authority.

Whether you want to find about local recycling facilities, need to know the time of a bus to get you to school, have an elderly relative who needs to be cared for in their own home or want to find out where to report lost dogs, you need to head for  http://www.herefordshire.gov.uk/ .

The new-look website went live on Tuesday, January 4 2005.

“As more and more people turn to the Internet to get information about all kinds of things, we realise Herefordshire’s residents – and a lot of people further afield - want quick and easy access so we’ve upgraded our website to make it easier to use and more informative,” said Cllr June French, Cabinet Member (Human Resources and Corporate Support Services).

The Council’s updated site is a key element of the authority’s “Implementing Electronic Government” strategy, which aims to embrace new technology to improve service delivery and keep residents informed.

“Visitors to the website will find the vast majority of the services we provide quickly by using the A-Z of services. We’ve also added a new search facility, together with a section on those questions which are most frequently asked of the Council, to help people find information much more easily,” added Cllr French.

This new site has been designed to act as an electronic gateway or “hub” for the Herefordshire Partnership.

This has been possible thanks to funding from both the Single Regeneration Budget through Advantage West Midlands and the European Regional Development Fund.

“We’re grateful for their assistance and hope that the site achieves one of its key objectives – namely, to give the residents of Herefordshire greater access to a wide range of services from a large number of partner organisations across the county.”

There are plans to expand the e-gateway further over the coming months and the Council will keep residents up to date with these, and other, developments nearer the time.
