Friday, June 25, is a red-letter day in the diary of local businesses as the doors to six new factory units in Hereford will be officially opened.
The units, at Twyford Court, on the Rotherwas Industrial Estate, are to be declared open by Cllr George Hyde, Cabinet Member (Economic Development, Markets and Property) on Friday, June 25, at 10.45am
The completion of the new units and associated roads is one of the first completed projects funded with Rural Regeneration Zone funding in this area.
Construction of the units has taken six months and cost around £1.3 million. Funding for the project has been split three ways between Rural Regeneration Funding from Advantage West Midlands (the Regional Development Agency for the West Midlands), European Regional Development Funding Objective 2 from the Government Office for the West Midlands and Herefordshire Council.
The units, which have their own car parking spaces, vary in size from 6,000 sq ft to 2,213 sq ft, and have been built complete with toilets, gas and electricity supply and water.
Cllr George Hyde said: “Herefordshire Council is a keen supporter of local businesses and we’ve been pleased to have played our part in providing these units which will be used by local companies,” he added.
“Units of this size are always in demand and we hope they will become the catalyst to help local businesses thrive and survive,” added Cllr Hyde.
“We also hope that they will allow new local firms to flourish which will, in turn, mean more jobs and more money coming into the County.
“The fact that we now have these superb units is a credit to the close partnership between the Government Office for the West Midlands, Advantage West Midlands and this Council.
“I’d like to formally thank our partners for the support they’ve given us throughout this project.”
Alison McLean, Rural Regeneration Zone Director, said: “The Rotherwas Industrial Estate is an important hub for economic activity in Herefordshire.
“This investment in high quality units and improvements to the infrastructure of the estate is part of a wider push by all involved to attract new and growing businesses into the area.
“I am delighted that the Rural Regeneration Zone programme has been able to help turn the plans for the units into a reality and look forward to seeing the businesses that occupy them thrive in their new surroundings”
Mark Pearce, Director for Herefordshire at Advantage West Midlands, said: “Projects like these really are a classic example of how the public sector can work in partnership to help and support the private sector.
“If businesses is to thrive in Herefordshire, high-quality premises are an absolute must and it is excellent to see developments like this taking shape.
“This will leave a lasting legacy on the Rotherwas Industrial Estate and make a real difference to the businesses and people of Herefordshire.”
Brin Davies, Director of the Western Division at the Government Office for the West Midlands, said: “The units at Twyford Court will provide much needed additional capacity for local SMEs [Small and Medium Enterprises] to develop and help attract new investment to the area.
“We very much welcome this project as part of a package of initiatives for the Rotherwas Industrial Estate, which is reflected in European Regional Development Fund support of over £1.5 million.”
