Renowned author Sue Gee who appeared at this years Hay Festival launched her new book ‘The Mysteries of Glass’ at Kington Library. The book launch took place on Friday 28 May. Sue was there to take questions and sign copies of her latest novel, which will be published on 7 June.
Sue thanked Miss Vera Harrison, secretary of Kington Local History Society, for all her research into historical facts for the book. Miss Harrison is also acknowledged in the book.
‘The Mysteries of Glass’ was also promoted at the Hay Festival when Sue appeared alongside Joanne Harris, author of best-selling Chocolat, Monday 31 May. Both women talked to Phil Rickman, another local author, about their latest works.
Sue grew up on a remote farm in Devon before moving to Surrey and then onto London where she teaches on the BA writing Programme at Middlesex University. She has a rural retreat near Kington.
She has written several novels and her love for Herefordshire and the surrounding area runs through much of her work.
Her latest novel, about an idealistic curate, is set in Lyonshall and Kington in the 1860s. Her much acclaimed ‘Hours of the Night’ is set in the Welsh Borders.
“We were delighted that Sue chose Kington library as one of the venues from which to launch her new book,”
said Cllr Roy Stockton, Cabinet Member (Community and Social Development).
“The evening was a great success and was very well attended.
“Herefordshire nurtures and inspires a great deal of creative talent and the fact that Sue chose the County as the setting for her novel and a venue from which to launch it is testament to that,” he added.
