Wildlife Mini Safari

If you’re a budding young explorer or have set your sights on becoming the next Indiana Jones then why not visit Queenswood Country Park on Saturday 31 May?

The Herefordshire Nature Trust WildPlay Project will whisk you away on a wildlife mini-safari to discover the wild world of Queenswood so you can find out what lives under those logs and rocks and who really is hiding in that tree!

The safari, which has been planned in partnership with the Herefordshire Council Parks & Countryside Service, is one of the events organised to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queenswood Arboretum and is aimed at children aged five to 12 years.

Lily Horseman, of the WildPlay Project, said: “This event marks the start of national Wildlife Week.

“Come down and join us and have some fun exploring the outdoors, looking out for it’s wild inhabitants!

“The first of three sessions will start at 10am and costs just 50p per child or £1 per family.

“There are also places available on the 1.30pm session, but please remember that all children must be accompanied by a parent/carer who is responsible for their safety at all times.”

Please arrive early as places are limited to 20 per session, alternatively reserve your child’s place in advance by calling Herefordshire Council Parks & Countryside Service on 01568 798320.

Queenswood Country Park is situated at the top of Dinmore Hill on the A49 between Hereford and Leominster (follow the brown and white signs at the top of Dinmore Hill).

If you can’t make this WildPlay session then why not come along to the Midsummer Play Day planned for 28th June or Woodland Masks and Drama on 24th July.

Details of these and the other events taking place at Queenswood throughout the year are available in the Queenswood Golden Jubilee Programme of Events available from Tourist Information Centres, libraries and Info In Herefordshire.

The WildPlay Project is encouraging anyone who works with children in an out of school setting to get their groups involved in outdoor play.

Registered groups receive free environmental play training, free access to the Natural resource library and free mailings six times a year.

If you would like to register or find out more contact Lily Horseman on 01432 356872.
