The performance of Herefordshire Council Services for Children and Families, and Adults, has been rated at 2 stars. This follows the Joint Review Assessment of Social Services which was published in July 2003.
We are seen as serving some people well and having promising prospects for the future.
The performance for children's services has stayed at a high level and children's services are now seen as having excellent prospects.Services for older people are making some progress but need significant improvement and investment if they are to reach a good standard and provide more opportunities for promoting independence and staying safely at home.
Councillor Mrs. O. Barnett, Herefordshire Council, Cabinet Member for Social Care and Strategic Housing said: "I am really pleased that the efforts of staff to support vulnerable people have been seen to make a difference. We still have a lot of hard work to do, especially for older people, and we must continue to make changes and drive forward improvements, but this cannot be done without investment."
Sue Fiennes, Herefordshire Council, Director of Social Care and Strategic Housing said: "this 2 star rating puts us in a confident position to continue making improvements in our practice and services. Social Workers and Social Care staff work hard to support people and deserve recognition. Services for older people need a lot of attention to build up the performance and improve the experience of older people needing care and support in Herefordshire."
