Over 30 West Midlands employers are gathering to discuss the benefits of flexible working at a seminar on Wednesday 26 November in Birmingham.
The Flexible Working Solutions Seminar has been organised by the West Midlands Regional TravelWise Group, a network of local authorities. Working together to promote sustainable transport.
Herefordshire Council, a member of West Midlands TravelWise, are encouraging local employers to attend the seminar to explore remote, mobile, flexible and home working solutions.
In addition it will enable businesses of all sizes to find out how they will be affected by legislation on flexible working that came into effect in April 2003.
Speakers include Pauline Henderson of the Department of Trade and Industry, addressing the work life balance, Lynette Swift, Director of Swiftwork on the subject of managing a flexible workforce and Andrew Kinnear, Managing Director of Office on the Web, who will discuss flexible working for small and medium businesses.
Afternoon workshops will examine case studies where flexible working is benefiting employers including exploring the idea of a Duvet Day!
Janette Barratt, Green Transport Promotions Officer - Herefordshire Council, said: “There are some compelling reasons for employers to explore flexible working. Surveys repeatedly show that companies adopting flexible working practices are achieving productivity improvements of up to 40%.
“In addition, providing flexible working can give employers an edge over the competition, as they allow employees to achieve a better balance of work and family life.
“And working from home one day a week could help reduce congestion which currently costs £20 billion a year in lost time to British businesses.
“We hope employers will come and find out how they can provide a more flexible working environment.”
The seminar runs from 10.00am until 4.00pm and will cost £25 to include refreshments and lunch. For further information please contact either Emilie van de Graaff on 01905 766212 or Vicky Candler on 01785 276615.
