A four-member panel has been formed to scrutinise the way in which the Council funds major festivals in the County.
Cllr Chris Chappell, Panel Chairman, said: “ This review is about ensuring best value for public money.
“The Council supports a range of festivals throughout the County and we want to ensure money is spent wisely.
“We are looking at not only the economic value to the community of these festivals but also their social and artistic value.”
The Panel, drawn from the members of the Social and Economic Development Scrutiny Committee, will interview a number of festival organisers and stakeholders, as well as receive written statements.
In line with the Council’s commitment to open government, three meetings are open to the public and there will be an opportunity for comment at each meeting.
Meeting are organised for:
· Monday, November 10, Chase Hotel, Ross-on-Wye, at 6.30pm
· Wednesday, November 12, Civic Suite, Leominster, at 6pm.
· Thursday, November 13, Pavilion Rooms, Ledbury Rugby Club, Ross Road, Ledbury, at 6.30 pm.
The review group will interview representatives from the Herefordshire Photographic Festival, The Three Choirs Festival, Ledbury Poetry Festival, Leominster Festival and the Ross-on-Wye International Festival and other key organisations involved.
An interim report is to be made to the Social and Economic Development Scrutiny Committee which meets in public on 27 November, 2003.
The final report will be considered by the Committee and recommendations then sent to the Cabinet Member (Community and Social Development).
