New Youth Booklet Launched

Young people wanting more information about a myriad of issues affecting their lives can now access a copy of a valuable new resource called “Way 2 Go”.

The 144 page colour booklet, produced by Herefordshire Council’s Youth Services team, is jammed packed with information and contact numbers for issues such as sexual health, the law, politics, drugs, religion and education.

The book is being distributed to Secondary Schools throughout the county and will be given to Year 10 students.

Jenny Lockwood, Assistant Manager for Youth Services, said: “The booklet is an important source of information for young people who may not be comfortable talking to their parents or teachers about sensitive issues.

“Young people often find it easier talking to their peers about problems, especially of a personal nature so these resources will help them be better informed.

“All young people need at some time, support from friendly adults, who are not parents or other authority figures. Way 2 Go and the free phone line helps fill the gap.

“In a nutshell we’re supporting young people support each other.”

As well as the booklet Youth Services has launched a free-phone support line for young people throughout the County.

The number is 0800 51 11 11 and is available seven days from 10am to 10pm.

The line is confidential and young people can speak to youth workers about any issue.

Jenny added: “The support line has been introduced because we have evidence from our Way 2 Go service that young people need access to confidential support.”
