Actress Virginia McKenna in Hereford Visit

One of the most daring secret agents in WW2, was the beautiful Violette Szabo, played by Virginia McKenna, in the memorable film “Carve her Name with Pride”.

When the Violette Szabo Museum opened at Cartref, Wormelow, Ms McKenna was the guest of honour and on Tuesday, 8 October, she is visiting Hereford Cathedral, to once again meet Rosemary Rigby, curator of the Museum.

Violette Szabo’s life is celebrated at her Museum, which has an exhibition within the Cathedral as part of the Anne Frank Fringe.

Rosemary Rigby, Curator of the Museum, said: “Violette, or Vi as she was known, spent many happy hours with her Aunt and Uncle at Cartref, and was last there in May 1944, resting between missions, just months before her execution at Ravensbruck Prison in January 1945.

“I am delighted to be able to bring part of the Museum to the Cathedral and support the Anne Frank Exhibition. The Violette Szabo Exhibition, traces the history of her life and death, and will feature artefacts from the museum.”
