A new look to Herefordshire Council's Record Office, based in Harold Street, Hereford, will create improved workspace for users of the facility.
After requests from visitors to the building, the workbench, which carries the microform machines in the search room, will be lowered ensuring a more comfortable workstation for those people spending several hours browsing records.
To accommodate the work and ensure public safety, the office will be closed to the public for one day, on Tuesday October 1st, but staff will be available to answer telephone enquiries as usual.
Sue Hubbard, Herefordshire Council's Record Office Manager, said: We are sorry for the inconvenience to our users but hope that they will appreciate the improvement when we re-open at 9.15am, on October 2nd.
