Working in partnership for the people of Herefordshire

Older People Please Apply!

Jumping Generations a successful volunteering programme which enables older people to work with children, has been extended thanks to Age Concern and Herefordshire Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership.

Dawn Probert at Herefordshire Early Years and Childcare Partnership said: 'Children today don’t always have the opportunity to talk to older people and may not know much about things that have shaped all our lives.

'Although this initiative is a wonderful opportunity for little people, the older volunteer gains the satisfaction and enjoyment of doing a really worth while job'.

Volunteers will take part in an interesting and enjoyable introductory programme in November, before being placed with a pre-school, day nursery, after-school or holiday club.

After the training on-going support is given to all volunteers to ensure they continue to find the work rewarding.

The only criteria are a sense of humour, a willingness to share a lifetime of skills and experience with a new generation and an affinity with children.

If you would like to find out more about this opportunity please come and join us at our information briefing on Tuesday, 22nd October, at the WRVS Centre, Vicarage Road, Hereford, between 10.00 - 12.30.

Or, you can phone the Herefordshire Early Years and Childcare Partnership on 01432 261681.
