Herefordshire Is A Blooming Success!

Herefordshire Council Parks & Countryside Service would like to congratulate all of Herefordshire’s ‘In Bloom’ committee’s following the county’s overriding success in this year’s Heart of England Regional Britain In Bloom Awards.

The results were announced on Friday 30th August in a special ceremony at the Courtyard theatre hosted by Hereford In Bloom and this year Ledbury was the town that truly came up smelling of roses, winning a Gold Award (‘exceptional achievers who have demonstrated a consistently high standard’) and becoming winners in the Small Town Category for the third year running as well as winning an overall award for the best in region.

Hereford was awarded Silver Gilt (a ‘very high standard throughout’) in the Large Town Category along with the ‘Royal Worcester Spode Trophy for Outstanding Achievement’ which recognised the lack of litter and rubbish in and around the town and Hereford’s new waste disposal depot and recycling unit.

Ross-on-Wye also did well winning a Silver Award (an ‘above average entry’) in the Small Towns category and Bromyard also won a Silver Award in the Small Country Town category which was a particularly excellent achievement considering this was the Town’s first year of entering the competition.

The Parks Team work in partnership with the In Bloom committees to ensure that the town centres, Council sites and floral displays are all clean, tidy and managed and maintained to the high standard expected by the In Bloom judges.

Colin Meneaud, the Parks Officer responsible for sites in the county towns, said: “I am very pleased for the ‘In Bloom’ organisers in Ledbury, Ross and Bromyard with regard to the outstanding results achieved in the County this year. Members of the Parks Team, within Herefordshire Council are particularly satisfied with their contribution this year and of course we must not forget the work of the grounds maintenance contractors – Sodexho in Ledbury and Bromyard and Herefordshire Commercial Services in Ross.”

Fran White, the Parks Officer responsible for sites in Hereford City, said: “Thanks to the efforts of Hereford In Bloom, their sponsors and Herefordshire Commercial Services the City looked marvellous when the judges came and it managed to look even more stunning on the day of the presentation. It is a great honour for Hereford to have hosted such a prestigious occasion, which was brought to the City this year by the vision and forethought of the Hereford In Bloom Committee and their hard work in partnership with the Herefordshire and Hereford City Councils.”

The Parks & Countryside Service congratulates all of the winners and hopes that all will achieve an equally high standard in next year’s competition.
