Council Presses for Urgent Meeting

Herefordshire Council is asking for an urgent meeting with Sport England to thrash out the issues surrounding its bid for funding for a new swimming pool for north Herefordshire.

Earlier this month the Council was told its bid for funding had been turned down.

Now the authority has fired off a letter to Sport England's Chief Executive requesting that the meeting be held as a matter of urgency.

Last week's meeting of Cabinet (Thursday, September 12) ruled out submitting a smaller, scaled-down application and agreed to call the meeting with Sport England to discuss the current submission.

"We need to meet Sport England to rebut the erroneous claims made in their response to our application," said Cllr Terry James, Leader of the Council.

"Their response is littered with factual inaccuracies and we need this meeting urgently to redress the balance," he added.

"As far as we're concerned, Sport England hasn't a leg to stand on. It's let the county down and we want to meet with its Chief Executive quickly to press our case very strongly."
