On Monday morning next week, September 15, work will begin on the access road which will connect Leominster’s soon-to-be-created 29-acre business park to the A49.
The new link-road will play a vital role in opening up the new £20 million enterprise park on the edge of Leominster with both the A49 by-pass and the A44.
Work on the industrial estate, which is expected to create around 600 jobs, is also due to begin shortly.
The Leominster Enterprise Park is a joint project involving Herefordshire Council and the regional development agency Advantage West Midlands.
It will be built in a number of phases and will become home to light industrial and commercial units.
“This new industrial estate will be a shot in the arm to the business economy in the north of the county,”
said Cllr George Hyde, Cabinet Member (Economic Development, Markets and Property).
“Of course, this investment will be wasted unless we can tempt businesses onto the new site. To do this, we need an efficient transport infrastructure to give them quick and easy access onto our main arterial routes,” he added.
“This new access road is key to unlocking the success of the new business park and I’m delighted work has finally begun and local people and businessmen will be able to see something concrete happening.”
Cllr Mike Wilson, Cabinet Member (Highways and Transportation), added: “This an exciting time for businesses in the north of the county. The new business park will provide much-needed accommodation for a host of different businesses.
“While the products they will produce will no doubt vary enormously, they will all have in common a need to ship in raw materials and transport finished goods out of the county.
“This new access road marks a significant commitment by both Herefordshire Council and Advantage West Midlands and I’m pleased work is finally getting underway”.
Preparatory work to enable workmen to begin the groundwork for the access road and the business park has included encouraging badgers away from the area.
