Jarvis Contract Signed

Herefordshire Council has signed a long-term deal with contractors Jarvis ushering in a new era of partnership under the newly formed Herefordshire Jarvis Services (HJS).

The new company has now taken over the running of the Commercial Services Division and will carry out a range of activities such as repairs to roads, cleaning streets and buildings, and providing school meals.

The project is one of the first Strategic Delivery Partnerships to be established in the UK.

Jarvis, in partnership with the Council and its consultants, will provide the community with highways and traffic services, civic and school catering, grounds maintenance, street and building cleaning, recycling facilities, building management and maintenance as well as other support services.

In addition to management expertise, Jarvis will also be introducing a range of cutting edge innovative technologies to provide better, quicker and more cost effective services for the people of Herefordshire.

The very latest service vehicles are also being introduced to make sure that all staff can work safely and comfortably, no matter how remote their worksite.

Graham Dunhill, Herefordshire Council’s Director of Environment, said: “We’re delighted that this new partnership is now underway.

“Jarvis has a strong reputation not only for technical expertise in respect of the services involved but also for its work ethic and this deal, together with our partnership with a consultant, is good news for the people of Herefordshire.”

Kevin Hyde, Chief Executive of Jarvis, said: “This is an exciting new challenge for Jarvis and we look forward to a successful long-term partnership with Herefordshire. We see local authority outsourcing as an area of significant growth in Jarvis’ future development and are currently pursuing over £4 billion worth of opportunities.”

Around 500 Commercial Services staff have now transferred to Jarvis and retain protection of their current terms and conditions.
