TEMPORARY TRAFFIC LIGHTS IN OPERATION IN THE CITY

Due to the essential improvement works to gas mains in the City, temporary three-way traffic lights are in operation at the Widemarsh Street junctions with Blackfriars Street and Coningsby Street.

Transco are currently working in Widemarsh Street and, to ensure that the traffic can continue to flow down all three streets, temporary traffic lights were erected yesterday, October 27.

It is anticipated that the traffic lights will remain there for at least four weeks.

Transco have been replacing the gas mains throughout the City since Spring this year. The work is being carried out in five phases, finishing in Victoria Street.

“We’ve worked closely with Transco throughout the summer to minimise the disruption caused by their works. These temporary three-way traffic lights are essential to make sure that the work can progress across the junction without closing access to Coningsby and Blackfriars streets,” said Stephen Oates, Herefordshire Council’s Head of Highways and Transportation.

“We hope the Transco works won’t cause too much disruption to the traffic but we would advise people to take a different route at busy hours if possible,” he added.

Transco will have to be out of both Widemarsh Street and Eign Gate by the end of November due to the Council’s Christmas embargo which doesn’t allow programmed works to take place in any busy street or shopping area throughout December.
