PARK AND RIDE BACK AGAIN IN HEREFORD

It’s back due to popular demand - the successful Christmas Saturday Park and Ride service is back again to offer shoppers free and easy parking during one of Hereford’s busiest times of the year.

Shoppers can choose free parking at two sites in the outskirts of Hereford, and enjoy a comfortable bus ride for a nominal fare to the heart of the busy town centre.

The service offers a “door to door” service from your car to the city centre shops, saving you the stress of searching for a parking spot and driving through congested streets.

As in previous years, the Park and Ride sites are on the A49 (Holmer Road), at the Denco Car Park to the north of the city, and on the A49 (Ross Road) site at Grafton for those in the south.

Officers reported a continuingly good response from users as per previous years.

Park and Ride 2004 will operate every Saturday from November 13 until December 18.

Buses will run every 15 minutes, starting at 9am, with the last return bus leaving the city centre at 5.50pm.

Fares have been kept the same as last year - £1 per adult, with a maximum fare of £2 per car - and parking is free for Park-and-Ride users.

“Park-and-Ride is an environmentally friendly scheme and an important part of the Council’s sustainable transport initiatives aimed at tackling traffic congestion,” said Cllr Mike Wilson, Cabinet Member (Transportation).

“We all know how busy Hereford’s city centre gets in the run up to Christmas. The Park and Ride service means less traffic and less pollution in Hereford City Centre, and it also means less stress for shoppers.

“Each year it’s become increasingly popular and I’m delighted we can offer festive shoppers this facility again this year,” he added.

The Park and Ride service will operate on November 13, 20, 27, and December 4, 11, 18.

Private security staff will patrol both sites on the six days to ensure cars are secure.
