Herefordshire Council staff raised more than £1,300 for Macmillan Cancer Relief and local charity, St Michael’s Hospice, with their successful coffee morning.
A handful of council office buildings held a coffee morning last month, with staff bringing in a mouth-watering array of cakes and biscuits to sell to colleagues.
A prize draw also made a weighty contribution to the fundraising with prizes donated by Tanners Wine, Escape Hairdressers, Boots the Chemist, Chairman of the Council, Cllr Peter Harling, Halo, Herefordshire Jarvis Services, members of staff and Councillors.
“We’ve taken part in the Macmillan coffee morning for many years now and for the past three years have donated half the money to a local charity,”
said Cllr Phillips, Leader of Herefordshire Council.
“Macmillan Cancer Relief and St Michael’s Hospice are both causes that are close to people’s hearts and the way staff and businesses chip in for an event like this is testament to that.”
Herefordshire Council staff also gives money to St Michael’s Hospice through the Pennies from Heaven scheme.
The Pennies from Heaven scheme takes the odd pence from the pay packets of participating staff and will donate the combined monies to St Michael’s Hospice and Cancer Research UK at the end of this financial year.
Since it began in April 2004 members of the Council staff have raised £640.58.
