ONE-DAY ROAD CLOSURE FOR ROSS

Residents and traders in Ross-on-Wye are advised that Broad Street will be closed for one day on Friday 1 October from its junction with High Street / Gloucester Road to its junction with New Street.

The road closure is required for the return of the popular European Market.

The European Market, which consists of a touring French market and our local farmer’s market traders, will occupy the top half of Broad Street from the market hall to the junction with New Street.

This one-day road closure will of course take place at the same time as the long-term closure of Greytree Road for reconstruction of the drainage culvert.

Stephen Oates, Head of Highways and Transportation, said: “We appreciate that having two road closures in Ross will inevitably cause some inconvenience for the day. However, the European Market is an important local event and every step has been taken to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum.”

The Greytree Road closure has been well publicised and diversions are established.

The Broad Street closure only affects the top section of the road. Access will be available to the lower section of Broad Street from New Street. Diversion signs will be in place.

Traders on Broad Street, High Street and Gloucester Road received a letter informing them of the forthcoming road closure in early September, allowing plenty of time to make alternative arrangements.

The Chamber of Commerce is very supportive of the European Market.

“Anything that brings people into Ross to shop should be encouraged and the European Market should certainly do that,” said Caroline Learmond, President of Ross-on-Wye Chamber of Commerce.

“We’re also glad to hear that there promises to be a good turn out from the local farmer’s market traders,” she added.
