Improved computer network brings in council savings

02 February 2010

Herefordshire Council is to save £720,000 over the next three years after placing a new contract for their computer network.

The community network connects all the county’s schools reliably to the worldwide web to help students with their studies - but at a fraction of the cost of buying their own Internet services.

The council and the primary care trust will also ensure that services to customers are backed with an improved network that connects their systems and shares information across scores of offices and facilities dispersed across the county.

The new contract is with Updata Infrastructure Limited UK from 1 April 2010 and is worth around £2.5 million in total, having been awarded after competitive tendering and evaluation.
