TOWN HALL WELCOMES ALL VISITORS

The Town Hall’s centenary festivities are set for the open weekend, Saturday 21 – Sunday 22 August.

Everyone is welcome at the open weekend, doors are open 10am – 4pm and entry is free.

There’s something for everyone, people will be able to explore many of the nooks and crannies of the Town Hall normally out of bounds.

There will be an exhibition on the history of the building from the original plans of the building to modern day.

People will also be able to peruse personal histories of the Town Hall which have been flooding in.

These personal histories include a couple who met and became engaged at the Town Hall and a lady who was called upon to sweep the red carpet for a royal visit and every time she opened the door was greeted with cheers from the waiting crowd.

There will be a quiz and commemorative gift for all young visitors and refreshments will be provided by the Women’s Institute Markets.

To complement the activities going on inside the Town Hall the Guild of Guides are leading walks from the Town Hall on Saturday at 2.30pm and Sunday, 11am.

The walks are also free and will take about one hour. The theme of the walks is the siege of Hereford and the City Coat of Arms.

There is also the competition for all local artists. The City Council is looking for a drawing, painting or photo of the Town Hall as it is in 2004 to complete the Town Hall collection.

The top of the crop will receive a bottle of champagne, personally donated by the Mayor.

Entry forms are available from the Mayor’s Secretary on 01432 260438 or picked up in person at the Town Hall.

All competition entries should be sent to the Mayor’s Secretary, at Hereford Town Hall, Hereford, HR1 2PJ, by Tuesday 24 August.

Mayor, Cllr Polly Andrews said: “We’ve been delighted by all the support we’ve received for the centenary celebrations. People have rallied around locating artefacts and images to make the exhibition as full and interesting as possible.”

More follows…
“We also can’t forget all the volunteers who will be working on the weekend, the Guild of Guides, the Women’s Institute Markets and all the Councillors who will be acting as guides in the Town Hall.

“We’re also very grateful for all the personal memories of the Town Hall that we’ve received. Without everyone’s help and support this open weekend wouldn’t be taking place.”
