Culvert collapses on A438

21 December 2009

Herefordshire Council is advising motorists that traffic signals are in place on the A438 Hereford towards Brecon Road near Rhydspence.

The lights are needed because a culvert has collapsed on the road. This was caused by excessive water flowing across the road, washing away a section of embankment supporting the road on the south side.

Works will be carried out by the council’s service delivery partners Amey before Christmas to determine the extent of the damaged culvert and, if possible, temporary repairs will be carried out to avoid further erosion of the embankment.

Traffic signals will remain at the site until permanent repairs to both the embankment and culvert are completed.
