Works are due to start on the major improvement scheme for Roman Road (between Tillington Road and Stretton Sugwas) in early August 2004.
The works will be constructed by contractors Alun Griffiths and will be supervised on behalf of the Council by the authority’s consultants Owen Williams.
The work is expected to be completed in Spring next year.
The proposed scheme will upgrade 2.3km of the road to provide a standard 7.3m wide carriageway with verges and an unsegregated footway/cycleway which will link the outskirts of Hereford City to Stretton Sugwas.
This will be a significant improvement to a route which is currently substandard and where in places there is insufficient width for two vehicles to pass.
To mark the start of the construction phase, Cllr Mike Wilson, Cabinet Member (Highways and Transportation), and other local members will ”cut the first turf” at the Tillington Road end of the site this Friday, August 6, 11am.
Photographers/reporters are invited to cover this event.
