POTENTIAL AWARD WINNERS ARE SHORT-LISTED

Entries have been received and short-lists drawn up for the seven categories in this year’s Flavours of Herefordshire.

Flavours of Herefordshire has seven separate categories; Restaurant of the Year; Tea Room of the Year; Pub of the Year (sponsored by H.P.Bulmers Ltd); Breakfast of the Year; Shop/Retailer of the Year; Producer of the Year and Self-Catering accommodation of the Year.

The winners of this year's awards will be revealed on Monday, September 27, at a prize-giving ceremony at Hellens, near Much Marcle.

The Flavours of Herefordshire scheme recognises the best use and promotion of local produce and continues to be one of the most popular competitions of its kind in the Heart of England.

The scheme has been recognised for raising the standards of quality and service throughout the county since its inception six years ago.

Judging for Restaurant of the Year is being undertaken by the RAC.

Other inspecting, judging and tasting duties are being fulfilled by representatives of Heart of England Fine Foods, Herefordshire Tourism, the Chamber of Commerce Herefordshire & Worcestershire, Holme Lacy College, the Learning and Skills Council and the Meat and Livestock Commission.

Jane Lewis Herefordshire Tourism's Principal Tourism Officer said: "The longer this awards scheme runs, the more sophisticated it becomes."

"Standards amongst entrants have increased over the years and so have our judging credentials.

“What it all means, of course, is that even those who reach the short-list stage can take great pride in their achievement.

“It's been hard work to draw up that short-list this year. And anyone who does walk away with a top prize on September 27 will know they are the very best of the best."

Herefordshire now has a widespread reputation for its food, and locally sourced menus.

The county will once again be running an Autumn campaign, aimed at providing locals and visitors alike with a seasonal flavour of the county.

The Autumn campaign, Gourmet Herefordshire, includes:

· The Festival of Fine Food & Drink at Eastnor Castle, October 2 - 3,
More follows…
· The Big Apple celebrations, October 9 - 10,
· Ledbury Hop Fair, October 11-12,
· Herefordshire OktoberFEST, October 15 - 25,
· The Cider-making Festival Weekend, October 16 - 17 and…
