The Leominster’s Farmer Market in Herefordshire has been voted in the top six in the West Midlands.
The north Herefordshire market held in Leominster’s Corn Square on the second Saturday of each month finished in the top six from a strong field of 30 markets.
Judges praised the nice setting of the market and the wide range of produce and delicacies available.
Jeff Owen, Herefordshire Council’s, Markets and Fairs Manager, said: “This is a wonderful accolade.
“Being involved in the development and expansion of Leominster Farmers Market over the last three years has been very rewarding.
“The Partnership Agreement between Herefordshire Council and Herefordshire Farmers Market Group has been very successful, not just in Leominster, but also in Ross-on-Wye, Hereford and Bromyard.
“Our collective aim is to continue improving the service to the public by sustaining growth and providing a wide choice of quality local produce.”
Traditional produce on offer ranges from meats, cheeses, vegetables, confectionery, wine, fruit juices, eggs and even plants.
The Market Masters Competition was organised The Birmingham Post and sponsored by the National Farmers’ Union and Defra’s Rural Development Service.
The competition was launched in May to recognize the evolution of farmers’ markets across the region.
The overall winner was Moseley, with Stratford as runner up.
