A recent survey carried out by Herefordshire Council has shown a likely future need for more than 60 additional affordable homes in Kington, with one-bedroom units likely to be particularly in demand.
The survey asked the town’s residents about their housing needs over the next five years.
Affordable homes mean, for the main part, homes rented from a Housing Association or properties which are part-owned and part-rented.
Richard Gabb, the Council’s Head of Strategic Housing Services, said: “These surveys provide essential information for our Housing Enabling Team in its negotiations for further affordable housing provision. The response rate was 38% with 448 questionnaires returned and processed.”
At the request of Kington Town Council, a question asking about potential demand for office space for the self-employed was also included in the questionnaire.
18% of the households who returned a questionnaire included at least one self-employed person.
Out of these, 20 self-employed people said that they do have a requirement for additional office premises in the town.
Copies of the survey report have been sent to Kington Town Council, Kington Library and the Kington Info in Herefordshire Help Point.
